AEC Regent III RT - RT 593
RT 593
Date:1948
Registration:HLX 410
Acquired by Museum:-
Current State:Fully restored, operational
RT 593 entered service with London Transport in July 1948 and was one of 250 vehicles with Weymann roof box bodies which were identical to a further batch of 350 from Park Royal. Within the first year of delivery from the manufacturer, RT 593 was involved in a severe rear end collision and was returned to Weymann of Addlestone for repair. However, its RT3 type roof box body was removed and replaced with a new RT8 type without a roof number indicator, but it regained an original type on its first overhaul.

All of Weymann and Park Royal roof box bodied buses were withdrawn from service by 1963, many of them exported to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and South Africa. Disposal of RT 593 was to Morphy Richards, the electrical appliance manufacturer of Orpington and the bus was outstationed at Hardy's Corner, Northfleet, Kent for use as staff transport. In 1969, the bus was sold to a market gardener at Iver, near Slough for use as a temporary office and shed. Sold again in 1970 to a dealer, it entered preservation later the same year and has been in current ownership since August 1980. The vehicle is fully restored and featured on Royal Mail stamp in 2001.

This vehicle is privately owned.
